Sourcing

Constraints before targets

Sourcing decisions are made against distance and traceability constraints rather than an annual percentage target.

The primary cabin textile comes from within a day’s drive of final assembly. That ruled out most of the supplier market immediately.

Manufacturing

A plant that mostly powers itself

Final assembly generates more electricity annually than it consumes. For roughly four months a year it draws from the grid.

We publish the monthly figures rather than the annual one, because the annual one flatters us.

The supplier list, including the awkward entries

Tier one and tier two suppliers are published by name and by site, updated twice a year.

Two current entries are under active review following an audit finding. They appear on the list with that noted, rather than removed from it.

People

Forty apprentices a year

The programme takes forty people annually across manufacturing, engineering, and finish trades.

Retention at five years is 61 percent — higher than the sector, lower than we would like. Most leavers go to suppliers.
